“We’re back to business as usual,” said Rob Mitchell, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited’s communications and public affairs director.

“We’ve been given the all clear by the OPP. They’ve done a thorough inspection of all our facilities — the gaming floor, the hotel, our administrative operations, our administrative offices.”

In a statement Wednesday, Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Ltd. said the company was informed of the threat that was called into the Orillia OPP at about 2 p.m. According to the statement, the OPP and Rama Police were on site.

Mitchell told Global News the whole site was evacuated and under lockdown before it reopened Wednesday evening. When Casino Rama Resort was evacuated, Mitchell said most employees were sent home, except for a few senior staff that stayed on site to work with police during their investigation.

“[There’s] a community centre across the street from the resort that was made available to guests that could go there and wait for the outcome,” Mitchell said.

“Some of our guests chose to wait it out and see what would happen, and they were provided space at the First Nations facility across the road from the casino.”

Mitchell said he apologizes for any inconvenience the incident may have caused.

“It was beyond our control, but everything worked out for the best, and we’re very pleased with our staff and the patience of our guests,” he added.
