UPDATE: RCMP said Jan. 27 that the 27-year-old woman — Sheena Bhimji of Conrich — injured in the Jan. 8 shooting has died as a result of a homicide.
The RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting in the area of Conrich, Alta., on Wednesday that sent a woman to hospital with critical injuries.
The hamlet is located just a few kilometres east of Calgary along Township Road 250.
According to police, multiple officers from the nearby Strathmore RCMP detachment responded to Meadow Ridge Road in Rocky View County just after 2 a.m.
A Wednesday news release said the victim, a 27-year-old Conrich woman, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting. She was in hospital with critical injuries, RCMP said. On Jan. 27, RCMP said she had died.
Calgary police told Global News they have been asked to be on alert for a vehicle that could be linked to the shooting but haven’t released a description of that vehicle.
RCMP have spoken to several witnesses but little information has been shared about the suspect.
“Somebody committed this offence, but aside from that, we have very little information right now,” said Cmdr. Dale Morgan of the Strathmore RCMP detachment. “They’re still at large, considered armed and dangerous.”
Investigators are asking anyone in the area with security cameras on their property to review their footage for anything that appears suspicious between 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.
“Go through your footage. If you see anything there that looks a little suspicious to you, feel free to contact us and we’ll gladly come over and review it with you,” Morgan said.
“If this is going on in your backyard, the best way to help is to contact us if you have any information at all.”
