Guelph police say speed was likely a factor in fatal early-morning collision

GUELPH – The Guelph Police Service says speed was a factor in a fatal car crash in the city early Saturday.

A man died in the crash while a woman was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the single-vehicle collision happened at 12:47 a.m. near the southern end of town.

Names of the victims have been withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police have appealed for witnesses as part of their investigation.

Wellington Street was expected to be down to one lane for most of the day for Guelph Hydro to perform repair work from the crash.
