UPDATE:
Vernon RCMP say they received “numerous calls from the public” after gunshots were heard on Wednesday evening, and that a man and a woman were later arrested.
According to police, the incident took place along the 3000 block of 41ST Avenue at approximately 9 p.m., and that multiple officers converged on the area.
Police say vehicles associated to the incident had fled the scene, but that a detailed description of one vehicle was provided.
That vehicle was located on Highway 97 by a police officer in Spallumcheen, with police initiating a high-risk stop.
“Police and public safety are of the utmost importance to police and we treat every incident involving a firearm as serious,” said Vernon RCMP Cpl. Tania Finn.
“The two people inside the vehicle complied with the police officer’s direction and were quickly taken into custody without further incident.”

Police say a 20-year-old woman from Vernon and a 26-year-old man from Kelowna were arrested. The woman was later released, while the man is still in custody.
Police also said they have not had any reports of injuries and that the investigation is continuing.

An Okanagan resident claims to have heard rapid-fire gunshots on Wednesday evening, then saw two people running away.
The incident allegedly took place in the area of 41st Avenue in Vernon around 9 p.m.
On Thursday morning, RCMP vehicles could be seen parked in the area. Global News has reached out to the Vernon RCMP for comment.
