A student was struck and a woman was transported to hospital on Tuesday after a collision between a pick-up truck and a school bus east of Calgary.
STARS Air Ambulance responded to the crash at about 7:30 a.m. It happened about 10 kilometres southwest of Strathmore, Alta.
Investigators determined the truck was travelling east when it struck the back of the school bus, which had stopped to pick up students. The bus was pushed forward as a result and a student was hit by one of the bus’s mirrors.
The child was assessed at the scene and sustained minor injuries, RCMP said.
The driver of the pick-up truck, a 29-year-old woman, had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was flown to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary in serious, non-life-threatening condition, according to STARS.
No other students in the school bus were injured, officials said.
The investigation into the crash, including collision analysis, is ongoing, RCMP said.
