He was first elected in the district as a member of the Wildrose Party in 2015. In 2017, the Wildrose Party merged with the Progressive Conservative Party to form the UCP.

History

The 2015 election saw a relatively close, three-way race unfold in Lacombe-Ponoka. Orr and the Wildrose captured nearly 36 per cent of the vote, the New Democrats’ Doug Hart won over 30 per cent of voters and Progressive Conservative Peter DeWit gained nearly 28 per cent of votes in the riding.

The riding north of Red Deer was a Progressive Conservative stronghold from the 1970s until 2012, when Rod Fox won the seat for the Wildrose Party. Fox crossed the floor to the PC party in December 2014. He failed to win the PC nomination for the 2015 election.
