A pathway on the east side of Glenmore Reservoir was closed Tuesday after a bear was spotted in the area.
The City of Calgary said Alberta Fish and Wildlife is working to relocate the bear and has set up a trap in the area.
“The trap was set [Tuesday] after more bear sightings in the Glenmore Landing area: one the night before at 10:30 [p.m.] and another one before 6 a.m. [Tuesday]. The area in the vicinity of the trap has also been closed to the public,” said Brendan Cox, communications advisor with the Alberta government.
“As this bear does not appear to be leaving the area, we want to try and prevent it becoming habituated to garbage or other unnatural food sources,” he added.
Cox said the government is asking people who encounter a bear to call 403-297-6423 or the 24-hour Report A Poacher line at 1-800-642-3800.
