Two Edmonton Transit drivers were sent home after being hit by pepper spray while working the park and ride service for Friday’s Edmonton Eskimos game.
It happened at the McDonald’s near Commonwealth Stadium — at 112 Avenue and 82 Street — shortly before 9 p.m, where several drivers had gone for a break while waiting for the game to finish.
Edmonton police said a man loudly entered the McDonald’s, and eventually made his way to a table of eight Edmonton Transit drivers. Police said after a brief altercation, the suspect sprayed pepper spray in the drivers’ direction.
“Two of the operators were hit by pepper spray. Six other operators were nearby,” said Eddie Robar, branch manager with Edmonton Transit Service.
“The two operators directly hit were assessed and transported home. No hospitalization was required.”
Robar said an occupational health and safety consultant was called to the scene, where the other six drivers were cleared to return to work.
Park and ride operations — which resumed when the football game ended at around 10 p.m. — were not affected by the incident.

Police were called, but the suspect fled before officers arrived.
