RCMP investigate homicide in northern Alberta community of Peerless Lake

The RCMP say the death of a 25-year-old man at a house in Peerless Lake, Alta. on Monday has been ruled a homicide.

Officers were called to a report of an injured man in a home at about 4:15 a.m., police said on Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found the victim but he was pronounced dead by emergency medical workers.

An autopsy was completed in Edmonton on Tuesday which determined the manner of death to be homicide but police did not say how the victim was killed.

The name of the victim was not released but Mounties said he is from Peerless Lake.

The RCMP did not say if any arrests have been made or if they have any suspects.

“RCMP Major Crimes South are asking for the public’s assistance with providing any information on the investigation,” police said in a news release on Wednesday. “Please contact the Red Earth Creek RCMP at 780-649-3990 or remain anonymous with Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).”

Police are also investigating a stabbing in Peerless Lake that occurred later on Monday morning. However, the RCMP said the two incidents are not related.

Peerless Lake is located about 490 kilometres north of Edmonton.
