RCMP said tips from the public helped them catch a man wanted for an assault in western Saskatchewan.

Travis Stehr, 31, was charged on June 11 with assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after an incident in the RM of Bigger on June 4.

He was also wanted on outstanding warrants on a number of charges dating back to September 2017.

Biggar RCMP said they received a tip early Monday afternoon stating Stehr was still in the rural municipality.

Officers located his vehicle but the driver took off when police tried to stop him.

Stehr was tracked to a nearby wooded area and arrested.

Stehr made his first court appearance on Tuesday and will be back in North Battleford provincial court on Thursday.
