Carrie Underwood fans were left confused after the country singing sensation returned to the stage Sunday for the first time after suffering a “gruesome” fall in November.

The singer claims that the fall resulted in her getting 40-50 stitches, and previously she said it changed the way she looked.

In a blog post to fans on New Year’s Day, the country singer said she’s “not quite looking the same.”

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” she wrote. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well.”

At Sunday night’s ACM Awards, fans got a good look at Underwood’s “new” face, and for the most part, viewers were flummoxed by Underwood’s appearance — she looked exactly the same as she did before, possibly even better.

Many viewers took to Twitter, questioning why they saw no noticeable difference.

Last week, Underwood, 35, gave her fans an update, saying her face “has been healing pretty nicely,” and during rehearsal for the ACM Awards, she snapped a selfie backstage. Again, there is no visible scar or any sign of previous injury.

She also said the recuperation time from the fall has been a “silver lining,” since it meant she was able to spend more time with her husband, Mike Fisher, and their son Isaiah.

It wasn’t all negativity from social media, however. The majority of fans were ecstatic to see the singer back in action and promoting her new single, Cry Pretty. Underwood’s last major album release was 2015’s Storyteller.
