Justin Bieber is Kids’ Choice for male singer

TORONTO – Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was picked Favorite Male Artist at the 2013 Kids’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The Ontario native, who beat out Bruno Mars, Blake Shelton and Usher for the honour, was performing in Italy and not able to attend the show.

B.C. native Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” lost the Favorite Song category to “What Makes You Beautiful” by British group One Direction.

Kristen Stewart picked up two awards, including Favorite Movie Actress for the made-in-B.C. film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

Presenters included Calgary-born Glee star Cory Monteith.

According to Nickelodeon, more than 387 million votes were cast online in 22 categories.

Of course, the Kids’ Choice Awards featured celebrities getting slimed – a practice that originated on the Ottawa-produced ’80s series You Can’t Do That On Television. This year’s slimed stars included Pitbull, Josh Hutcherson, Neil Patrick Harris, Amanda Seyfried and Sandra Bullock.
