Police investigating attempted murder after argument over rent in west Hamilton apartment

Hamilton police are investigating an attempted murder following an argument over rent in the city’s west end.

Officers were called to 421 Whitney Avenue at around 6:36 p.m. on Saturday evening after a report of a landlord-tenant complaint.

Police say a 60-year-old woman was upset that a 61-year-old man was not paying rent and may have also brought bed bugs into the unit.

The man was taken to hospital in critical condition.

As of Sunday afternoon, police say he remains in hospital in stable condition.

Police say they have recovered a weapon but did not reveal what kind of weapon was used in the altercation as the evidence is part of the ongoing investigation.

They said the nature of the victim’s injuries could not be revealed for the same reason.

Police said they believe the woman had been drinking alcohol before the incident.

Linda Jaksic of Hamilton has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Hamilton police say Jaksic was subletting a room in the unit to the victim and that there is no domestic relationship between the pair.

Police add that they are not looking for any other suspects.
