Two people have been arrested, and a warrant issued for a third, after a fentanyl investigation in Fort McMurray, Alta.
The way the fentanyl was packed leads investigators with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) to believe that the drug was being sold as heroin.
The investigation began in December 2017 after information was received about fentanyl trafficking in the northern Alberta city. On March 21, a total of 18.4 grams of fentanyl was seized, along with a .22-calibre rifle and ammunition from an apartment in the lower townsite.
“The drug game is inherently dangerous and the risk to community safety is compounded when fentanyl and firearms are involved,” Sgt. Brad Lundeen of ALERT Fort McMurray said in a news release on Wednesday.
Lindsay Boyd, 31, from Edmonton is facing multiple drug and firearms-related offences. Kyla Boulin, 26, from Fort McMurray has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
A warrant has been issued for Bobby Jo Gladue, 36, from Edmonton. He’s wanted for fentanyl trafficking.
