Niagara College takes delivery of cannabis lab

Niagara College has wrapped up the week on a high note.

The college has taken delivery of five specially modified shipping containers that will serve as the teaching lab for its production of commercial cannabis program.

The post-graduate certificate program, the first of its kind in Canada, will welcome its first cohort of 24 students in the fall of 2018.

Those students will get hands-on experience in cultivation and production.

Over 300 applications have been received for the program, which requires applicants to have a diploma or degree in a related discipline, such as horticulture, agricultural sciences, plant sciences or biology.

The college adds that those graduates will go on to pursue careers working with licensed producers as growers, operation managers, and in positions related to quality control.

The lab is located at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus.
