On Tuesday night, police arrested Kenneth Wayne Hodder, 53, at another residence on Gaston Road and executed a search warrant at that home.
Through the course of their investigation, police discovered that money was stolen from the victim after the assault.
Hodder is charged with attempted murder and robbery and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Thursday.
Police say this was not a random act and that Hodder and the victim are known to each other.
