31-year-old Halifax man arrested in connection with robbery

A 31-year-old man is in police custody in connection with an early morning robbery on Friday.

According to police, officers responded to a robbery in progress at the Irving gas station at 2499 Robie St. shortly before 7 a.m.

A man reportedly entered the business and asked for cigarettes, which he was given by the store’s clerk. When the employee asked for payment the man produced a knife and fled on foot.

The employee was not physically injured during the incident.

While police were on the way to the gas station they observed a man matching the description of the suspect in the area of Davison and West streets.

The man was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Police have charged Craig Robert Hatt of Halifax with one count each of robbery, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He appeared in Halifax Provincial Court later on Sept. 29.
