A Maple Ridge resident in the Albion neighborhood believes he’s being targeted by the city after his eviction story came to light earlier this week.
Shawn Hall says he’s being evicted because his landlords unknowingly bought a home with an illegal basement suite.
Hall says the city told him it only enforces the bylaw regarding basement suites when someone complains.
He says a neighbour complained to the city after a verbal altercation with him about parking in the area, which led to the eviction.
Hall spoke to CKNW’s Steele and Drex on Monday, Sept 11.
Since then, he has come under the impression that he and his neighbors are being targeted by bylaw officers handing out tickets for crowded street parking.
“Overall I never see bylaw, and to see them three days in a row back to back, directly in front of our place just seems eerie to me,” he said. “And when I go looking around the other neighborhoods that I walk the dog with, nothing seems to be out of place. No cars have moved.”
Hall said his neighbors have echoed his concerns about allegedly being targeted by bylaw officers.
“I think this is maybe because we made a complaint,” he said, after appearing on CKNW.
He believes dozens of tickets have been handed out on the block he lives on from Monday to Wednesday.
The City of Maple Ridge has not responded to requests for comment.
