Winnipegger Nolan Patrick was selected second overall by the Philadelphia Flyers at the 2017 NHL Draft despite spending the entire season as the top-ranked prospect.

The New Jersey Devils skipped over Patrick, taking Swiss forward Nico Hischier number one instead. Hischier put up 86 points in 57 games with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads this past year. He was ranked second heading into the draft.
A pair of hernias limited Patrick to just 33 games this season. The Brandon Wheat Kings centre finished the year with 20 goals and 26 assists.

Had he been selected number one, Patrick would have become the first Manitoban to be drafted first overall.
