Firefighters in Alabama had to free a 15-year-old girl who became stuck in a giant Barney the dinosaur costume head after a sleepover prank went uncomfortably wrong Sunday evening.

Darby Risner thought she would try to scare her friends during a weekend sleepover after she spotted the oversized purple costume head in the basement of her friend’s house.

In an interview with NBC News, the teen said her plan quickly backfired.

“I wanted to scare my friends, so I put it on and waited for them to come downstairs,” Risner told the news station. “It didn’t scare them.”

The prankster told NBC that everyone had a good laugh over the attempted scare but things went sideways after Risner couldn’t get her head out of, well, the head.

“When it started to get hot, I tried to push it off,” Risner said. “That’s when I realized it was stuck.”

Risner explained that the costume head slipped down over her shoulders, pinning her arms.

After Risner and her friends made several attempts to get free of the Barney head, they decided it was time to get help.

So off they went to the local fire station.

Trussville Fire Lt. Vince Bruno told AL.com the fire crew was amused by what walked into the station.

“When they walked in, you couldn’t help but start laughing,” Bruno told the news website. “We tried to be professional, and she was a little distraught, but we had to giggle about it.”

The firefighters had to cut small slits in the side of Barney’s head and were able to slide the head off of Risner’s melon.

“It was such a relief,” Risner told AL.com “I have laughed about it.”
