Saskatchewan election results 2016: NDP wins Regina Rosemont riding

Trent Wotherspoon of the NDP has won the Regina Rosemont riding with 3,957 votes beating out the Sask. Party’s Kevin Dureau who got 3,080 votes.

Summary: An urban riding in northwest Regina. NDP MLA Trent Wotherspoon seeks re-election in Regina Rosemont.

Boundaries: Regina Rosemont includes the neighbourhoods of Normanview West, Dieppe and Mount Royal. The riding stretches from 9th Avenue North in the north to Dewdney Avenue in the south. It goes from Pinkie Road in the west to Lewvan Drive in the east.

Last Election: Wotherspoon defeated Saskatchewan Party candidate Tony Fiacco by 822 votes, 55 per cent to 42 per cent.

History: A primarily NDP riding, with only one PC MLA, Gordon Dirks, from 1982 to 1986. Trent Wotherspoon has been the NDP MLA since 2007 and before that, NDP MLA Joanne Crofford served from 2003-2007.

Candidates

Saskatchewan Party: Kevin Dureau, partner at the Press Box Sports Bar in Regina, Check-it Solutions and On Course Golf Marketing.

NDP: Trent Wotherspoon, deputy leader of the Official Opposition. He is also critic finance, education, municipal relations, urban affairs, economy and the Global Transportation Hub.

Liberal: Reid Hill, rotarian and volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Green: Sara Piotrofsky
