Ricky Gervais took to the podium Sunday night as the host of the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards, broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. He spared no insult or barb, and targeted many attending celebrities in his crosshairs, including Sean Penn (about his El Chapo article), Brad Pitt (about his many adopted children), and Ben Affleck (about his alleged affairs).

But no one felt the wrath of Gervais quite like actor Mel Gibson. On stage to present an award, it’s fair to say that the mood was awkward as he and Gervais stood next to each other. After a few shared insults, Gervais appeared to be leaving the stage. Then, he abruptly came walking back and asked the one-time A-lister “What the f**k does ‘sugar tits’ even mean?” referring to a 2006 incident in which the actor was pulled over by police.
While pulled over, Gibson reportedly went on an anti-Semitic tirade, and upon noticing a female sergeant, asked her “What do you think you’re looking at, sugar tits?” He was ultimately charged with DUI and released shortly thereafter.

Gibson later apologized for the incident, saying he was going to get his drinking under control. Arguably, his career in Hollywood has never recovered to what it once was.
