VERNON – North Okanagan RCMP say they’ve arrested a prolific offender.

Police say the incident started around 6:15 Monday morning when someone called the RCMP to report a suspicious sight on Okanagan Lake. A man was dragging three kayaks behind a zodiac.
A member of the public took responding RCMP officers out on the lake in a boat, but they couldn’t catch the man.

“By the time they got close to him he had already made it to shore and took off up the hill and into the brush,” says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “With the help of a police service dog we apprehended him.”

RCMP say when the 40-year-old man was arrested he had in his possession bear spray, break and enter instruments and a number of items the police suspect were stolen.

RCMP have recovered one of the kayaks but are still looking for the other two. Police believe the boats may have been stashed somewhere along the shore of the lake between Kin Beach and Old Stump Mill Road. Police are hoping to hear from anyone whose Zodiac or kayaks have been taken from the north part of Okanagan Lake.
