WATCH ABOVE: Amy Schumer’s video Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup has led to an empowering social media response. Allison Vuchnich reports.

TORONTO – In a boy band parody Amy Schumer sends a clear message. At the beginning of the video, the band serenades Schumer singing lovingly, “girl you don’t need make up, you’re perfect when you wake up, just walk around like that all day.”

So Schumer removes her makeup but the results shock the pop band who immediately instruct her, “girl you do need makeup, lots and lots of makeup, think of a clown and work your way back.” Even referring to her natural face as looking like “the ghost from The Ring.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Once the video aired on the series Inside Amy Schumer, she tweeted the hashtag #girlyoudontneedmakeup.

The video and hashtag are now anthemic, women and girls expressing that they feel pressure to look perfect and live up to unrealistic beauty standards.
