CALGARY – Whether you’re spending time with loved ones, or working through the holiday, Monday is Family Day and the city is adjusting its hours of operation as a result.
Here’s a look at what’s open and closed, including some fun suggestions for Family Day activities.
What’s open:
Calgary Transit – Transit will operate on a Sunday level of service. Check schedules at calgarytransit.com, call Teleride at 403-974-4000, or Calgary Transit Customer Service at 403-262-1000 for more detailed information.

- Fort Calgary for the free Winter Carnival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Calgary Zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. though the southwest gate entrance remains closed due to construction.
- Heritage Park is holding interactive family challenges from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- TELUS Spark has Family Day weekend activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shopping – Calgary’s malls will operate on Sunday hours. Market Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Chinook Centre will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Skating – There’s free public skating from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at:
- Ernie Starr Arena
- Frank McCool Arena
- Murray Copot Arena
- Optimist Arena
- Jimmie Condon Arena
- Shouldice Arena
- Henry Viney Arena
- Stu Peppard Arena
All other arenas will be closed, except for advanced bookings.
Family Day hours at the Village Square Leisure Centre and Southland Leisure Centre are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
East Calgary Landfill is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What’s closed:
- North Mount Pleasant Art Centre
- Wildflower Arts Centre
- Animal Services Centre on 2201 Portland St. S.E.
- Spyhill and Shepard landfills
