Yellow police tape cordoned off an alleyway in Marlborough Park Saturday.  It’s now Nora O’Connell’s’ view from her back deck.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I heard four loud like banging. I thought it was the guy next door like banging, like hammering,” O’Connell said.

O’Connell heard the bangs around 10:00AM Saturday morning and shortly after, screams.

“I could hear somebody yelling. I thought it was kids yelling oh my god, oh my god.”

Neighbors say a couple moved in to the house about two months ago.

“My boyfriend mentioned he had seen a suspicious vehicle sitting out back in the alleyway the other day,” Jaci Peterson said. “About a minute after they had pulled in they left and I didn’t really think anything of it and then all this goes down.”

A few blocks south, police also tape off a street. Fifteen minutes after the murder, reports of bullets hitting two homes came in.

It was a close call for at least one family that lives on this street. A man that lives in a brown house on the block says his three young children were watching tv in the living room when a bullet crashed through his front window, missing his 8 year old by less than half a meter.

“Anytime there’s a discharge of a firearm in the city, that’s extremely alarming to us and a serious public safety concern. You make an assumption in a residential area, discharging a weapon has the potential to have some serious consequences for the public,” Staf  Sgt. Rob Davidson.
