EDMONTON – Alberta could have a new a premier in just a few days.

The P.C. leadership election is taking place this Saturday.

Card-carrying party members will have their choice between three candidates: Ric McIver, Thomas Lukaszuk, and Jim Prentice.

The party has been plagued with controversy, largely surrounding government travel spending. It resulted with Alison Redford stepping down as premier in March, followed by an auditor general report in August that had several recommendations, including stricter rules surrounding government flights with family.

Even one of the candidates, Thomas Lukaszuk, hasn’t been able to avoid the controversy, after it was revealed he took his daughter on three government trips.

Lukaszuk said in order to attend to government business, he had to take his daughter because it happened on no-school days when he was with her.
