Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star Dan Levy is criticizing comedian Shane Gillis’ recent SNL monologue after he said women who go to the gym dress like “whores.”
Gillis, who hosted SNL over the weekend, was fired from the sketch comedy show in 2019, five days after being cast as a regular when clips of him using racial slurs during a podcast interview resurfaced.
The stand-up comic, who has hosted SNL several times since, said Saturday: “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?”
Levy called out Gillis’ comments in an Instagram reel, saying, “Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists.”

“By the way, I’ve seen more men’s nipples at the gym than I’ve ever seen women showing their bodies off,” he continued, adding that he was “speechless” that a remark like that could make it onto live national television.
“More men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it’s complacency that has created the environment with which women are sexually assaulted and it’s a ‘conversation’ as opposed to a ‘crime.'”
Women are “not objects,” he said, “they are superior human beings to men.”
“I am sorry if this gets me in trouble with the internet…but f**k.”
The Emmy Award-winning actor and writer, who hosted SNL in 2021, said this was an “everybody” issue because the more men speak about women this way in the media, the more men will treat them like “objects.”
The video, which has been viewed more than two million times, received praise from high-profile individuals including Viola Davis and Elizabeth Banks, who both commented in support of Levy’s message.
“Nailed it,” Banks wrote.
Gillis also talked about his “friend” podcaster and UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s private gym, which he said he prefers because he can work out there with no one else around.
Rogan is a controversial figure in the podcast space. He has been known to promote unproven treatments for COVID-19 and for repeatedly using racial slurs while hosting.
SNL, which is currently in its 52nd season, has said goodbye to a couple of titular cast members in the past year, including fan favourite Bowen Yang, who ended his eight-season run last Christmas, and Chloe Fineman, whose final episode was in May.
Barrie, Ont., native Veronika Slowikowska joined the SNL cast in 2025 as a featured player; she is the first Canadian cast member since the mid-90s. The show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, is from Toronto.
Other notable Canadian comedians, including Martin Short and Mike Myers, have also appeared as regular cast members.
In March, Myers returned for a surprise appearance where he showcased his impersonation of tech billionaire Elon Musk.
During the closing credits, he was spotted wearing a black T-shirt that read “Canada is not for sale,” with a Canadian flag in the middle, beside Shane Gillis, who was hosting the episode, and musical guest Tate McRae.
Don’t be prudes, we’re not in 1900 England, dress however you want girls, I’ll try to hide my boner
Women can dress however they want, the hotter the be
Dan levy is gay.
@Incontinentia Buckets, RJ, and Dave
No, you are out of line here. Shane is objectifying women. Encouraging modesty? Who are YOU to tell women what to wear on a given day, time, and place? Just because these women are showing confidence with their bodies, doesn’t give any person, especially men any right to label them as whores. Do you think that it is fine to mock an overweight, middle-aged men who is so out of touch with reality and lives alone with a cat? Do you think that obese men at the gym who wear tank tops and shorts should be asked (to go home) and encouraged to dress modestly? Aren’t they asking to be made fun of by dressing like THAT? Wait…the jokes are on Shane the Spinster.
Thank you Dan Levy for being a stand up guy! That Shane person was awful and offensive. Why that guy has a career is beyond me.
Some people have no sense. Shane was mocking gym girls who dress trashy. He isn’t objectifying him, he doing the opposite and encouraging modesty.
But the idiots freak out on him, and followers like Ben make the argument that suggesting women dress modestly encourages SA. Now that IS what an incel woukd say.
I see Ben is projecting, again.
It’s crass but Shane isn’t wrong. He’s also a comedian and making fun of people is what comedians do. Really easy to not be offended by just ignoring him.
Just another nobody desperate for attention
If women are superior beings to men, why isn’t Danny attracted to women? Doesnt that mean that gays are inferior to heterosexuals since there are no women involved?
Never go full woketard
@ben, keep whacking off to pictures of carnhole
I go to the gym regularly. There’s some regular, more modest gals in there, and they are more attractive to me. The ones who wear the gym-kini shorts, where you can see everything and I mean everything… they’re nice to look at, but they’re definitely attention seeking. They want the attention. They’re narcissistic. Food, water and attention.
Lots of involuntarily celibate men in the comments. Must be difficult for them.
@ben, the only sex you’ve had is with your poodle
I think what people don’t realize is this normalizes such talk about women. The majority of sexual assaults on women are by men and we need to be mindful of this.
Oh look, another irrelevant actor trying to get some attention.
I love the feigned outrage of the ” superior species”…..have you seen some of the outfits? I mean come on, leaves nothing to the imagination, and that’s ok….
Oh no ! an upset hoomoo sex ual that didn’t like what he was hearing. Well that’s too bad. Go cry to your father Eugene, the world doesn’t care if about your hurt feelings.
Any guy who can get a boner luvs the way women dress, it’s human nature
Ohhh those tolerant lefty’s I tell ya.
Just because a “comedian” makes a bad joke, doesn’t mean people will change their views on women, or anything else for that matter.
Ben foaming at the mouth as usual,
how do you sit so upright with such a weak spine?
Geez. Women can dress how they want. How does one’s clothing determine their character? Saying things like this just encourages misogynistic sexual assault culture.
Its comedy don’t cry Karen.
