SASKATOON – City administration is recommending the noise bylaw be amended to make it an offence to operate a vehicle in Saskatoon in a manner that disturbs the public.
The draft bylaw would allow police to carry decibel readings and issue tickets for noisy vehicles and motorcycles.
City officials were looking at utilizing the same technology used in Calgary to nabbed loud vehicles, but that is no longer being considered.

“Unfortunately, the technology has complications so we still want to move forward addressing noisy vehicles, however we can’t do that with the noise snare technology anymore,” said Ward 1 councillor Darren Hill.

Ward 2 councillor Pat Lorje told the committee it is a small minority of motorcyclists who are the offenders and consultations should be held before any permanent changes are made to the bylaw.
If approved, police will hand out tickets to anyone operating a vehicle louder than 92 decibels.
