New wildfire west of Osoyoos now under control

A wildfire that sparked up near Osoyoos Monday evening is now being held. As Troy Charles reports, the fast-moving fire comes as wildfire officials warn of dry conditions in the Interior. – Aug 12, 2025

Crews were called to battle a new wildfire burning just west of Osoyoos on Monday evening.

The fire, which was first discovered late Monday, is burning along Highway 3 on the west side of Osoyoos Lake and north of the airport, and was last mapped at 10.1 hectares in size.

DriveBC said Highway 3 was closed in both directions at Old Richter Pass Road. It has since reopened eastbound but remains closed westbound.

Global News viewers reported both planes and helicopters dumping water on the fire.

The fire is classified as under control as of Tuesday morning and an evacuation alert associated with the blaze was rescinded Tuesday afternoon.
