Train problems piling up on Deux-Montagnes line

MONTREAL – There is a growing problem at the Roxboro-Pierrefonds train station, and it’s piling up quickly: snow.

Snow banks are taking up valuable parking places in several lots that are already filled to capacity with vehicles.

Snow clearing efforts aren’t enough to accommodate the demands of commuters who’ve decided to use mass transit to travel between this bedroom west island community and downtown Montreal.

Customer frustration with the AMT isn’t limited to snow covered parking spots.

Late running trains and standing room only capacity has been a problem that has plagued the Deux-Montagnes line for years.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“What is especially irritating is that this is the busiest AMT line and it’s the customers that are getting the poorest service,” Marco Burelli said while waiting on the platform Tuesday morning.

An AMT spokesperson tells Global News there are plans to conduct feasibility tests in the coming weeks to eventually add double decker trains to this line and increase capacity.

However, it’s too little, too late for some commuters.

Natalie Custeau gave up riding the train on the Deux-Montagnes line years ago because of poor service.

“When the train did arrive it was jam packed. Crowded. You couldn’t even put a foot inside the train,” she said from outside of her car which she now uses to get to and from work.

She’s not be the only former AMT passenger.

Ridership on the Deux-Montagnes line dropped last year.

And the AMT may have a tough time bringing it back up this year if service isn’t put on the fast track for improvement.
