CALGARY — The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Calgary Hitmen 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in Calgary in a battle of the top two teams in the Western Hockey League.
Rockets captain Madison Bowey scored the game winning goal early in the third period as the Rockets played a solid road game, out-skating Calgary and outshooting them 29-19 in improving to a WHL-best 36-5-0-2 on the season.

Calgary opened the scoring, but Justin Kirkland’s 9th of the season on a nice wrist shot evened the score 1-1 after the first period.
Carter Rigby’s 12th of the season gave the Rockets the lead in the second period, and Ryan Olsen added an empty net goal to secure the win.
Jordon Cooke returned to the net and earned the win, his 26th of the season.
The Rockets will return to Kelowna after a 3-1 road trip. After losing in Edmonton, Kelowna earned wins in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Calgary.
The team now heads for a double-header in Victoria this weekend before returning to Prospera Place Jan. 22 to host Everett.
