Calgary police’s traffic section is investigating an early morning crash in the city’s northeast last week that left one man dead.
The collision happened at 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 19, near Stoney Trail and McKnight Boulevard Northeast.
According to police, a 2021 Ford Edge, driven by a 50-year-old man, was travelling south on Stoney Trail Northeast, nearing the McKnight Boulevard overpass. The car drove off the road, went through a grass ditch, and hit an overpass support beam on the west side of Stoney Trail Northeast.

Police say the impact happened at a high speed and the driver was declared dead at the scene.
Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors in this collision, but excessive speed is.
