CALGARY – A local teacher is facing child pornography charges after a four-month long investigation by police.
Officers arrested 37-year-old Ryan Bostrom on Thursday after investigators searched his home.
Bostrom is charged with possessing and accessing child pornography.
An investigation into Bostrom was launched in early February by ALERT’s southern Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.
He is employed as a teacher Dr. EP Scarlett High School. According to the website ratemyteachers.com, he works there as a food services teacher.
Although the Calgary Board of Education cannot comment on the incident because it’s subject to a police investigation, they have posted a statement on the Dr. EP Scarlett High School website saying:
“Student safety is our first priority. In a situation like this, the employee is immediately removed from the workplace with pay pending the outcome of investigations. CBE employees are required to complete a police criminal check before beginning employment. In addition, employees are required to notify the CBE if they are charged with criminal offences. The CBE’s critical incident response team is always available to support a school community when there is a crisis of any time.”
Bostrom has been released on bail with a number of conditions including not to have contact or communication with any child under the age of 16, and not possessing any electronic device that is capable of accessing the internet.
He will appear in court on June 10.
