There’s really no way around spending money during Stampede, but it might not cost as much as you think.

From concerts, shows, food, drinks and of course the rides, there are some ways to save money if you plan accordingly.

Sky England with the Calgary Stampede says you have to be strategic and recommends planning out your itinerary.

Start by taking in a “value” day, like the Suncor Family Day. It includes free admission between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and breakfast for the first 20,000 guests.

“You’re into the park for free, you got your breakfast. You have a full belly and now you’re going to head over to the agriculture zone and there’s so many different animals and AG demos to check out,” England said.

Other value days include Sneak-a-Peek, Western Heritage Day and BMO Kids’ Day.

Families can also try something new, free of charge: the Indian Village is open in the new ENMAX Park.

“There willl be 20 teepees set up here, arts and crafts and a bannock station.

Jacqueline Tyler with the Fairmont Palliser said they offer a hotel stay with a Stampede twist.

“It includes great tickets for two children and two adults, plus breakfast in the dining room before they go.”

Finally check the Stampede’s website. You’ll find Stampede deals and discounts at a number of stores around Calgary including Safeway, Costco and Mac’s.

You can also download the Free Stampede Pancakes app to find freebie flapjacks near you.

It’s all about spending time, not money planning the perfect Stampede.
