TORONTO — The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Ajax have reopened after a fatal multi-vehicle collision Wednesday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say at least six vehicles were involved in the crash with two confirmed fatalities.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said an SUV was crushed between two transport trucks and a second person from another vehicle was transported to hospital with serious injuries and later died.

The identity of the victims have not been released but police said they were 63 years old and 57 years old.

The collision happened before Salem Road near Westney Road and all lanes remain closed for the investigation.

Motorist are advised to expect significant delays for the morning rush hour.
