Provincial election polling results. Insightrix Research / Global News

WINNIPEG – The Progressive Conservatives have almost half of Manitoba voters’ support – twice as much as the NDP — according to a new poll done for Global News and CJOB.

When 800 Manitobans were asked which provincial party they would vote for, 49 per cent of decided voters said they’d vote for the Progressive Conservative Party under Brian Pallister. Only 24 per cent said they’d vote for the NDP under Premier Greg Selinger.

The Liberals and leader Rana Bokhari polled 18 per cent support, while the Green Party garnered nine per cent.

The Progressive Conservatives rated much higher with Manitobans outside of Winnipeg, with 60 per cent saying they’d mark their ballot for Pallister’s party, while only 40 per cent of Winnipeggers said they’d vote PC. The Selinger NDP’s support in Winnipeg was 30 per cent while outside the city it was only 17 per cent.

Only 20 per cent of the men polled indicated support for Selinger’s NDP, while 29 per cent of women indicated they’d vote for the New Democrats.

Support among aboriginal Manitobans was fairly evenly split among the NDP, the Progressive Conservatives and the Liberals, while support for the Conservatives was much higher and support for the Liberals lower among non-aboriginal Manitobans.

Insightrix Research polled 800 people by telephone from Jan. 16 to Feb. 3. The poll is considered accurate to plus or minus 3.82 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
