Aging Vernon arena could get new lease on life
Description
March 14, 2017
After hosting countless hockey games and other events, Vernon’s Civic Area is near the end of its useful life as a skating rink. The city is set to add a new ice sheet to Kal Tire Place, by the fall of 2018, replacing the aging Civic Arena. But the Vernon landmark may be repurposed for a different use. Vernon council is considering the future of the arena that dates back to 1938. It has asked city staff to look at what it would cost to keep the building for a different purpose or to build a new facility.
