The Nova Scotia government has also declared a provincewide state of emergency. It will remain in effect until Aug. 5 as residents recover from torrential rains and flooding.

Heavy rains have resulted in hazardous driving conditions as vehicles have been abandoned on flooded highways and roads throughout the Halifax area and across Nova Scotia.
