Montreal student stabbed, seriously injured during fight at adult education centre

Montreal police say a student was stabbed during a fight at an adult education centre in the city’s north end early Tuesday.

The 19-year-old man was seriously injured during the incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of St-Vital Boulevard near Prieur Street in the city’s Montreal North borough.

The victim was taken to hospital, but police said his life is not in danger.

“Nobody else was injured,” police spokesperson Véronique Dubuc said.

An 18-year-old man fled the scene but then turned himself in at a local police station in the early afternoon.

Police said he does not have a criminal record and it is not yet clear what led to the altercation.

The Centre de services scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île (CSSPI), the school service which oversees the adult education centre, confirmed both men are students at the school.

The school’s administration is co-operating with police and psychological support is being offered to anyone who needs it, the CSSPI said in an email.

“All parents have been informed and have been asked to contact (school) administration if they are concerned,”

Investigators, crime scene technicians and a canine unit canvassed the scene, where a safety perimetre was set up. Police also said they would speak to witnesses as part of the investigation.
