One thing that is great about being a community contributor is all the fascinating local people you get to connect with. While meeting those people you realize their homes can be as interesting as they are not because of the size of the home or where it is but what is inside. When you go to a collectors house you realize very fast
There are things they love, things they like and things they collect.
The difference is small but the drive to obtain these objects can manifest physically.
Each item calls to you in its own unique way, a feeling inside the collector that instructs them to use whatever is left on their credit card to purchase the item.
Paintings. Teeth. Glass Eyes or concert posters what it is about can sometimes be a mystery, it might be connected to some childhood trauma or a positive event that helped shaped their lives.
In a small way it could be a way to express who they really are or what they want to be but can’t because life or other important things got in the way.
One of the benefits of collecting for a long time and becoming really good at it is being able to make it your job.
There is a guy that lives in Vancouver that you might have heard of before.
His name is Larry Hennessey and after a long career in radio, Larry transitioned from behind the mic to collecting mics….a lot of mics. Around 500 microphones over the last 100 years.
I got to hang out in Larry’s studio and see the massive collection of mics.
The above microphone is the one that the engineers would bang on to get working again.
This microphone can be seen in the movie Bad Times at El Royal.
Episode # 2 Joseph Planta and his amazing technicolor pin collection
In this episode, I visit Planta and check out his very unique collection.
The size of Josephs collection is just massive so I took a lot of pictures, sorry for the long scroll, but look at all of them!!
You never know who you will meet when you are eavesdropping on a conversation at dinner.
Episode # 3 A Night Out
Here are some choice knobs we discussed.
We all have a favorite movie or TV show but Stan Hyde loved Godzilla he made it his collection life and work. No big deal
Episode #4 The World Famous Stanzilla.
I know I made a big deal about the size of Joseph Planta’s pin collection and my comment’s stand. But Stan’s Godzilla collection really does surpass all that I have seen by a couple thousand collectables.
Just like when I randomly met Mr. Mcnutt and saw his doorknob collection.
I randomly received an email from a co-worker about his comic book collection.
Episode # 5
I was so taken back and excited about the fact I was in Jimi Hendrix, grandma’s house seeing this massive comic book collection I only took one picture. Sorry.
