The City of Toronto has added another 25 automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras to its already existing roster of 50 that have been in use for the last two years.

The additional cameras will be allocated one per ward, with three speed cameras now being placed in each of the 25 wards in the city.

In February, city council approved the installation of 25 more cameras bringing the total to 75.

The speed cameras began operating in July 2020. If a vehicle is caught speeding by an ASE, an image of the vehicle is captured and stored in the system and then reviewed by provincial officers.

If an offence is detected, the city said the only penalty is a fine mailed to the registered owner’s address and their driving record will not be impacted. No demerit points will be issued.
