Missing Vancouver Island solo camper located tired but unhurt

Police on Vancouver Island say a man who failed to return from a solo camping trip last week has been located and is safe.

Saanich police issued a bulletin Monday for Henry “Hank” Kitchell, 61, who had left for his camping trip on Oct. 18, but didn’t return to his Saanich home as expected on Oct. 21.

Police said Tuesday he had become lost while hiking in the Campbell River area. When he was found, he was tired but otherwise unhurt.

Investigators thanked the public for sharing photos of Kitchell’s vehicle, which they said were instrumental in helping find him.
