Remains discovered at Long Wharf in Saint John belong to unidentified female: police

Police say human remains discovered in the Long Wharf area of uptown Saint John on Tuesday afternoon belong to an unidentified female.

Saint John Police, along with the fire department, were called just after 2 p.m. to the scene. Major Crime, Forensic Services, and the Coroner’s Office assisted in the investigation.

On Wednesday, an autopsy was conducted, but police said identification can’t be made at this point, nor can they say how old the person was.

“Cause, manner, and time of death is pending further investigation,” said police in a news release.

“The Saint John Police do not have any recently reported missing females from our jurisdiction. The Major Crime Unit is gathering intelligence on missing person cases from outside our area.”
