A two-year-old child has been taken to a trauma centre after falling from the balcony of a residential building in Mississauga, police say.

In a tweet Friday, Peel Regional Police said the incident occurred in the Erin Mills Parkway and Fowler Drive area at around 5:15 p.m.

Speaking at a press conference Friday evening, Peel Regional Police Const. Heather Cannon said the two-year-old boy fell from the balcony and landed on the ground.

She said the child was taken to a children’s trauma centre with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Cannon said it was not immediately clear if the child is a resident of the building, or how he fell from the balcony.

Cannon did not say how many floors the boy fell, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact police.
