Most of the closures affecting the area of Highway 401 and Yonge Street in Toronto have been cleared following an earlier fire.
Toronto police said on Twitter that emergency crews responded shortly before 9 a.m. to the area for a communications tower that was on fire.
Police said it was near the on and off ramps of the 401.
The pole was leaning and there were concerns that it may fall, leading to a closure of Yonge Street in the area, as well as a portion of the 401, police said.
The Ministry of Transportation said the westbound collector lanes of the highway were closed, along with the on-ramp at Yonge Street.
In an update around 12:45 p.m., police said a crane was brought in to stabilize the tower and an engineer was inspecting the damage.
Westbound collector lanes remained closed at the time, while portions of Yonge Street reopened to alleviate traffic.
The westbound collector lanes, as well as the on and off ramps at Yonge have since reopened, as have the southbound lanes of Yonge Street.
The northbound lanes of Yonge remained blocked as of 4:16 p.m.
A Toronto Fire spokesperson said there is no word on what may have caused the incident.
The spokesperson said there was also a small grass fire near the base of the tower.
