Police confirmed Sunday evening the two women were shot dead in a vehicle, near West 8th Avenue and Discovery Street.

According to police, the bodies were discovered just after 8 a.m. by a passerby who was out for a walk. It’s believed the shooting was targeted.

Vancouver police were tight-lipped about the incident for much of the day Sunday saying it was to protect the integrity of the investigation.

“It is very early in the investigation. We need to protect the integrity of the investigation and our officers are out there collecting evidence,” Sgt. Steve Addison said.

Police have identified the victims as 50-year-old Shu-Min Wu and 39-year-old Ying Ying Sun

Members of what appeared to be the VPD Emergency Response Team were seen approaching a home behind police tape with long guns drawn Sunday morning.

Vancouver Police said late Sunday the ERT was deployed briefly to search a house near the scene, as investigators feared there could be additional victims inside.

Other officers could be seen dusting a white BMW SUV, partially covered by a tarp, for fingerprints.

A white forensic tent was also set up in the middle of the street.

One neighbour says he spotted the white BMW SUV parking in the same location at about 11 p.m. Saturday night with the lights on and someone inside. Another neighbor says he heard several loud bangs around the same time.

“We just heard ‘pop, pop, pop, pop,’ and we thought it was fireworks. Then we heard some sirens and some honkey-honk, but we just thought it was a convoy,” they said.

“This is a very quiet neighbourhood, so not what we expect.”

The murders are Vancouver’s first and second homicides of 2022.

Anyone who has information or has dash-cam video is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.
