Emergency crews were called to Danforth Avenue and Birchmount Road shortly before noon on Tuesday.

Police said the teenage patient, initially identified as an adult woman, was struck and transported to a trauma centre by paramedics in critical condition.

However, officers said in an update the girl later died in the hospital.

Doly Begum, the NDP MPP for Scarborough Southwest, told Global News she knew the victim and identified her as Nadia Mozumder.

The Toronto District School Board sent a letter to parents that the death of the young girl was a Grade 12 student at Birchmount Park CI.

“This is a very sombre time for all of us at the school as we mourn the tragic loss of this young life,” the letter said.
