She was accompanied by a 36-year-old man suspected of having abducted her around 6:15 p.m. the day before, in Val-d’Or.

“At around 6:15 am this morning, a team of patrollers from the main post of the MRC de la Vallée-de-l’Or, therefore the post of Val-d’Or, circulated in a wooded area and […] patrollers locate the girl and the man in the vehicle that was wanted, “said Sergeant Jean-Raphaël Drolet, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), in an interview three hours after the happy outcome for the family of this child.

Sergeant Drolet was still at the site of the discovery, a road suitable for motor vehicles in the forest at kilometer 498 of route 117, or about ten kilometers east of Val-d’Or, where a security perimeter was erected.

There, the suspect did not surrender peacefully to the police, on the contrary.

“As the patrollers located the two people, the man tried to flee from the police. However, he was quickly located by the patrollers who made his arrest,” said the SQ spokesman.

“The police also found items on the spot, suggesting that a camp was going to be erected there,” said Sergeant Drolet.

If the girl is safe and sound, she was nevertheless transported to the Val-d’Or hospital “for evaluation”.

The disappearance of the 5-year-old girl was reported to the police at around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The AMBER alert being lifted, it is now forbidden to reveal the identity of the child and that of his kidnapper, especially since he has not yet been charged with a crime
