The Calgary Fire Department said crews acted quickly Friday morning to save a home on the southeast end of the city from extensive damage.
Firefighters were called to a two-storey house in New Brighton shortly after 11 a.m. after getting reports of the blaze.
The fire department believes the fire started outside the home, ignited the side fence and caused flames to spread up the home’s vinyl siding.

CFD spokesperson Carole Henke said crews did a “swift lockdown to contain damage to the exterior.”
Fire crews said fire-resistant fiberglass mat gypsum sheathing installed under the vinyl siding kept the fire from growing.
One neighbouring home also suffered heat damage.
There were no reported injuries and investigators remained on scene in the afternoon.
The residents of the affected homes were not displaced because of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
